Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse them. Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep. Live in harmony with one another. Do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly. Never be wise in your own sight. Repay no one evil for evil, but give thought to do what is honorable in the sight of all. If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all. Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, 'Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.' To the contrary, 'if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink; for by so doing you will heap burning coals on his head.' Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good."
Lord Jesus, teach us how to live at peace with ourselves and with others. We are so quick to seek justice for ourselves. Remind us that You are the ultimate judge and You have pardoned us from our sin. When we were guilty, You brought us peace. Let that truth lead us to bless those who hurt us. Help us to rest in the peace that You will bring justice and we are called to love our enemies. Teach us to be a people of peace.
Pray for yourself: Ask God to show you where you need more of His peace in your life, whether within yourself, with others, or both. Ask Him to teach you what it means to seek and know His peace in your heart.
Pray for those closest to you: Pray for peace in your closest relationships. These are often the relationships where we hurt each other the most. Ask the Lord to show you where and how you can cultivate peace. Pray that these relationships would be marked by peace and an absence of bitterness.
Pray for your local church: Pray for your local church and church leaders. Pray that when conflict occurs, it would be dealt with in a healthy way so peace would flourish.
Pray for the worldwide church: Pray that Christians around the world would be known as a peaceful people. Pray that we would seek peace both within our churches and communities. Pray that the watching world would know Christians as a people who love their enemies and seek the good of others.
